I would like to join you guys. I have been a light/ultralight fisherman and basically a fair weather fisherman, so I may have to back out if we are still in the dreaded "polar vortex". 50's I can deal with. I will dust off the one heavy rod I have and spool on some new line. I've fished for bullheads when the bass and bluegill were not biting, so a big Mr. Whisker will be quite a change.

If you don't eat the blue cats then what do you do with them? I've heard the snakeheads are tasty but haven't heard anything disparaging about toxins. I guess they could make cat food or ferment into more catfish bait.

Well, we are 2 weeks away from the March Meet & Greet. We will be going for Blue Catfish at the Wilson Bridge so get your stinky bait ready and lets go fishing.

Hopefully the water clears up and warms up by then.

    Those attending so far.

I know out west many waters had industrial paint toxins that only caused birth defects so if you were done breeding the locals argued the fish should be able to be fish for and keep them. I don't recall what DNR thought about it.

I am going to try and make the 3/8/14 meet for catfishing. I'll pass on the lunch. Thanks for all the planning. This will be my first time catfishing on the Potomac.

I'm not keen on eating them either, but whatever you do, don't throw them back.

I strongly recommend not eating the fish. If you must, eat only small ones. They haven't built up as many toxins in their tissues.

No, these are just some of the bigger ones from lsat year. I have been out twice so far this month and only had a few pull downs. They will turn on very soon.

The DC Fishing license specifically says "DO NOT eat catfish from these waters." I'll admit, I've kept a few from there and they taste fine, but I it's really not worth it...

I don't know what the recommendations are, but if you do keep them, you may want to clean and wash them thoroughly. I kept some the last time I went, and I felt nauseous from the smell of the fish. It wasn't pleasant.
